Ecuadorian center-back Piero Hincapié could be the subject of another Arsenal hijack from Tottenham. The 23-year-old defender has attracted interest from several European clubs looking to bolster their defense.
His impressive performances for Bayer Leverkusen earned him 45 appearances last season, during which he contributed 3 goals and 2 assists. He was a mainstay in Bayer’s title-winning invincible season, making 26 appearances and 43 appearances overall in a season that saw them win the Bundesliga, the DFB-Pokal, and reach the final of the Europa League.
Tottenham sought to secure the signing of the 23-year-old with a €60 million loan with an obligation to buy deal, which appeared acceptable to Bayer Leverkusen. The player did not seem to have any trouble agreeing to personal terms with Tottenham, as widely reported.
However, Arsenal has now entered the fray, aiming to activate Hincapié’s £52 million release clause. The deal is contingent on offloading Jakub Kiwior first. Kiwior, valued at £25 million, has drawn interest from Porto, who must sell 18-year-old Rodrigo Mora to Al Ittihad before affording him. Arsenal may permit a loan with an obligation to buy if a permanent transfer isn’t feasible.

Arsenal are preparing to submit a new bid to Bayer Leverkusen worth more than the €60 million release clause to sign Piero Hincapié. If successful, this would mark the second time in less than a week that Arsenal have outbid Tottenham for a target. This developing story is worth following, and it remains to be seen whether Hincapié will favour a move to the Gunners, as Eberechi Eze did, or opt for Spurs
This is hijack season and no move is indeed safe.
